PHOENIX formed after ’70s classic band ARGENT disbanded, as it consisted of John Verity, Jim Rodford and Bob Henrit. Verity had joined Argent for their last 2 albums, replacing Russ Ballard; the band took on a change of direction, but Verity wanting to get back to a more straight ahead rock band came up with Phoenix. Well, I don’t know much about Alan Simon or this series of Celtic rock opera Excalibur releases. This being my first take on the project which previously released 4 studio and 2 live albums featuring different musicians on each one, though there are a few holdovers. Phoenix was a short-lived 70s trio consisting of ex Argent members John Verity, Jim Rodford, and Bob Henrit. The band’s debut was the excellent 1976 self-titled album that featured great guitar rock and vocals, featuring such stand-outs as Easy, A Woman Like You and From The Ashes. Don’t Fear The Reaper was Blue Öyster Cult’s first and biggest hit in 1976, after 3 albums. The song became etched in American pop culture in 2000 when a skit was made of it on Saturday Night Live with Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken; having fun with the recording of the cowbell [which in turn inspired the song More Cowbell by Blue Coupe!] VIAC BLUE ÖYSTER CULT: CLASSICS – WITHOUT THE COWBELL!→
Canada’s A FOOT IN COLDWATER released 4 albums in the ’70s, had a couple of hit singles here, then split after the 4th, but reunited on a few occasions. The Toronto band included Alex Machin [lead vocals], Hughie Leggat [bass], Bob Horne [keyboards], Danny Taylor[drums], and Paul Naumann [guitars]. This interview was written by Ron Mann and myself in 2012. We both tried to come up with original questions for Dennis. With the current 50th anniversary of the Alice Cooper classic album Killer, I thought it might be a good time to re-post it here, and add some updates. Many great bands in the early’70s released 2 albums in the same year, many would release 2 very important & classic albums in their catalogue early on and many did it more than once. VIAC ALICE COOPER – KILLER AT 50→
